NIAGARA FALLS – A man and woman are facing charges after a fight escalated, and shots were fired, passing through a house and coming dangerously close to hitting a 7-year-old child inside Jan. 26, police reported Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

Dominique N. Ferguson, 28, and Michael A. Lorraine, 27, both of 25th Street, were both arraigned last week in City Court on charges of second-degree criminal use of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree attempted assault. They returned to court Friday and were both released on their own recognizance. A return court date was set for April 2.

At 10:45 p.m. Jan. 26, a 17-year-old girl told police that she ran inside to escape a woman who was shooting at her following a fight. Multiple shots were fired, and bullets passed through the walls at the apartment in the 3300 block of Ninth Street. A 7-year-old child was sitting on the couch close to where one bullet was found, according to police.

Capt. William M. Thomson, chief of detectives, said that according to the victims, Lorraine had the gun and then tossed it to Ferguson. He said both have denied any involvement in the shooting.

Police found two bullet holes from a .38-caliber revolver just to the left of the front door; one entered a closet and lodged in a wall, while another bullet passed through both walls and struck a picture frame in the living room, just above where the child was sitting. The bullet then came to rest on the couch.

Police said they were told the two suspects left the area in a dark SUV following the shooting.
