CAMBRIA – A Lockport man is accused of driving drunk and then trying to flee the scene after a rollover crash on Lower Mountain Road on Sunday.
Aaron McMichael, 32, of Upper Mountain Road was charged by Niagara County sheriff’s deputies with driving while intoxicated, failure to use designated lane, moving from a lane unsafely, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and refusal to take a breath test.
Deputies responded to the rollover at 2 a.m. Sunday at 3540 Lower Mountain Road and learned the driver had fled. A K-9 search was unsuccessful, but at 3:45 a.m. the driver was located at Shawnee and Stoelting roads. McMichael told deputies he drank 8 or 9 beers at an inn on Ridge Road before driving his vehicle and crashing it. Investigators said he ran from the scene to avoid arrest.
