LOCKPORT – Jonathan M. Grant, who used five to 10 bags of heroin a day before his arrest on charges of stealing $6,290 from his step-parents and another woman, was sentenced to the state prison system’s drug treatment facility Wednesday.

“You are a thief and a drug user, and the thievery was to support your drug addiction, and I also find you need mental health counseling,” Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas told Grant, 25, of Robert Drive, North Tonawanda.

If he washes out of the treatment program, Grant will serve two to four years in a regular cell for attempted third-degree grand larceny and a probation violation on his 2011 conviction for fourth-degree grand larceny.

The 2011 thefts from two acquaintances, accomplished by forging stolen checks, totaled $6,818. Farkas ordered restitution once Grant is released.
