JAVA – A Chaffee man faces driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene and other traffic charges following an incident late Thursday on Chaffee Road in the town of Java, according to Wyoming County sheriff’s officials.
David W. Macomber, 33, of Gasner Road, was traveling southwest in a Chevy Silverado at about 11:45 p.m. when he drove across the center line of the roadway at Nichols Road and into a field, police said. Authorities said Macomber drove over a speed limit sign, damaging it and his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Erie County sheriff’s deputies located Macomber at his home a short time later and returned him to the scene of the crash.
Macomber was released to a family member pending a Feb. 6 appearance in Java Town Court.
