LOCKPORT – Adam E. Lemay, a burglar who faced as long as 15 years in prison after being booted from a court-supervised drug treatment program, was placed in another treatment program Friday, albeit one behind bars.
Assistant Public Defender Michele G. Bergevin persuaded the District Attorney’s Office to let Lemay withdraw his plea to second-degree burglary and plead guilty instead to third-degree burglary. She then talked Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas into sending Lemay to the state prison system’s drug treatment facility, although he faces two to four years in a regular cell if he washes out of treatment at Willard Correctional Facility.
Lemay, 32, now of Imson Street, Buffalo, broke into an apartment on Genesee Street in Lockport Oct. 26, 2010, stealing a TV set and a six-pack of beer, Bergevin said. She said alcohol and a “problem with authority” got Lemay in trouble.
On Nov. 1, Farkas ousted Lemay from the judicial diversion program of court-supervised drug treatment for using marijuana and trying to move to Buffalo without his probation officer’s consent.
