WILSON – The start of classes at Wilson Central School was delayed by two hours Friday because of a report that a student had a gun and a knife in his backpack the night before.
Thomas Beatty, chief deputy of the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, said the report was received from Wilson High School Principal Daniel Johnson about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, in the wake of a basketball game at the school. Beatty said the report was “based on fourth- or fifth-hand information.”
The student in question could not be located Thursday night. According to a letter posted on the school website by Superintendent Michael Wendt, school officials met with law enforcement about 5 a.m. Friday and decided to delay opening school while the search continued.
Beatty said the student was located about 7 a.m. He had no weapons in his backpack, and there was no evidence he ever did, Beatty said. No charges were filed.
