An Amherst man was arrested late Saturday after Buffalo police said he broke into an apartment on Mayer Avenue in Riverside and attacked a woman.

Anthones Mullen, 28, of Hillcrest Drive, entered the apartment by pushing in a window screen and entering through an unlocked bathroom window while the woman was out. When she returned at 11:45 p.m., he put her in a chokehold, slammed her to the living room floor and started choking her, police said.

She was able to get up, but the suspect prevented her from leaving by blocking the doorway, according to the police report. He also allegedly damaged a couch.

Mullen was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree burglary, second-degree harassment, third-degree criminal mischief, unlawful imprisonment, forcible touching, and first-degree criminal contempt for violating orders of protection.
