A 23-year-old Glenwood Avenue man was arrested on felony stolen car and other charges after crashing the car and then being chased on foot by police just before 11 p.m. Thursday on Lasalle Avenue.
Michael C. Ashley was speeding down Shirley Avenue in what proved to be a stolen rental company car, hitting speeds more than 35 mph above the speed limit, police said. While being pursued by police, he crashed the car on Lasalle near McCarthy Park and then tried to flee on foot.
He was arrested in the first block of Lisbon Avenue, where police found he had marijuana and a 9 mm unregistered handgun. He was jailed on felony and misdemeanor criminal possession of stolen property and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charges for the car, criminal possession of a weapon for the handgun and obstructing governmental administration for trying to escape arrest.
