A member of a four-man burglary ring that targeted Southtowns homes pleaded guilty Friday to burglary charges.
Joseph Harden, 19, of North Ogden Street, Buffalo, admitted breaking into four homes, trying to enter another and planning to hit two others between May 15 and June 19 in Orchard Park, Holland, Marilla, Wales, Concord and Boston.
Harden pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree attempted burglary and two counts of fourth-degree conspiracy to commit burglary.
Harden faces a maximum prison sentence of up to 75 years when sentenced March 6 by State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang, according to District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III.
Harden and other ring members drove to secluded homes during the day, knocked on their doors and kicked them in when no one answered, said Erie County Assistant District Attorney Paul E. Bonnano.
They then stole items and sold them at pawnshops, Bonnano said.
Two other defendants, Jeremy Agosto, 22, of Greene Street, and Ryan Zaskowski, 17, of Davey Street, have pleaded guilty to attempted burglary and conspiracy. They also will be sentenced by Wolfgang.
The fourth defendant, Sean Guthrie, 20, of East Lovejoy Street, faces trial on four counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of fourth-degree conspiracy to commit burglary and one count of tampering with physical evidence for allegedly telling a girlfriend to hide some of the stolen goods.
The four suspects were arrested in June at a Yellow Goose store on Route 20A in Marilla, shortly after a woman alerted the Sheriff’s Office to their suspicious behavior.
