BYRON – The extreme cold has claimed the life of a Town of Byron woman who wandered away from her home Thursday night, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reported this morning.
Authorities said identified the woman as Carol Magoffin, 71, who had been suffering from health problems.
Her husband found her body after following her footprints into a wooded area about 100 yards to the rear of their house on Byron-Elba Road.
Investigators said Carol Magoffin had been napping with her husband Thursday evening at their home when she woke up and walked away from her house.
Her husband woke up and found her missing. He searched the home and found the back door unlatched. He found her body in the wooded area at about 9:30 p.m.
The Byron Volunteer Fire Department, Genesee County Coroner Carol Lang and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.
Investigators said foul play is not suspected.
