A 29-year-old house cleaner stole a credit card from a client in Elma and used it to make approximately $1,000 in charges, state police reported Tuesday.

Amanda J. Dryden of Alexander was charged Saturday with a felony count of grand larceny.

An Elma resident had noticed her credit card was missing from her purse on Sept. 17, police said. When she contacted the credit card company, she learned that it had been used at six different businesses for purchases totaling a little more than $1,000.

Police said surveillance video from the businesses where the card was used showed the same woman making each purchase. When questioned by troopers at the Elma barracks, Dryden admitted to the theft and purchases, police said.

She was released on an appearance ticket, pending an appearance in Elma Town Court.
