A sour note was struck for the owners of a West Side music store Monday night when police seized 16 pounds of marijuana stashed in a large basement heating duct at the business, according to Northwest District police.

Pablo Arnau, 36, and Luis Rodriguez, 35, were charged with felony first-degree criminal possession of marijuana by police who had chased Michael A. Kemp, 27, into the store, Sweet Sound Music, 257 Grant Street, at about 7 p.m.

Kemp later told police he ran from an officer on patrol because he feared being arrested on an outstanding warrant.

After police found a small amount of marijuana in a candy wrapper where Kemp was arrested inside the store, a K-9 officer and his dog began a search and picked up on the scent of pot, leading them into the basement where the marijuana was discovered.

Kemp was charged with misdemeanor possession of pot and trespass. He was also arrested on a charge of petit larceny.

Police Lt. Jeffrey Rinaldo closed down the shop because it lacked proper licenses to operate. Others assisting in the arrests were Officers Adam Stephany, Maurice Foster and Lon Folts.
