An Amherst man has been arrested for selling drugs and untaxed cigarettes at the New York State Fair in Syracyse, authorities said.
State police on Saturday said James Scherer Jr., 66, was charged with violating state tax law by selling unstamped cigarettes from the trunk of his car near a restaurant at the fairgrounds. Scherers also was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and selling marijuana.
Police said they found 91 cartons of untaxed cigarettes, 16 grams of marijuana, less than a gram of cocaine and $2,000 on Scherer at his arrest.
He was arraigned and remanded to jail Saturday.
