LOCKPORT – A stint in a state mental health facility was ordered Friday for a Niagara Falls man who set fire Aug. 12, 2012, to a house on 20th Street in the Falls, from which he had just been evicted.

Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas placed William M. Bradley, 31, of Buffalo Avenue, on five years’ probation, but said the key factor is an assignment to the Mentally Ill Chemical Abusers program at Waterfront Community Residence in Celeron, an affiliate of the Buffalo Psychiatric Center.

If he isn’t admitted or fails in the program, Bradley risks imprisonment on his guilty pleas to reduced charges of attempted third-degree burglary and attempted second-degree criminal mischief. Assistant Public Defender A. Joseph Catalano said Bradley was originally charged with arson, but pleading to that crime would have cut off his eligibility for these treatment services.
