LOCKPORT – Ricky Q. Caldwell is making his fifth trip to state prison in the past 30 years, this time for pulling a knife on a dollar store clerk who tried to prevent him from shoplifting two bags of goods.

Caldwell, 48, of Michigan Avenue, Niagara Falls, was sentenced by Niagara County Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas to two to four years behind bars for attempted third-degree robbery. The incident occurred May 6 at the Family Dollar store on Hyde Park Boulevard in the Falls.

“All I do is steal. My record speaks for itself,” was Caldwell’s comment in a presentencing interview, as quoted in court by Assistant Public Defender Michael E. Benedict.

Benedict said Caldwell has plans to move to Louisiana and start over.

Caldwell said officers, noting his age, have asked him if he isn’t getting tired of the legal system. Farkas noted that Caldwell has been convicted of 65 crimes over the years.

“You have more convictions than you are old,” the judge said. “What does it take for you to get tired?”
