ROYALTON – A man who was digging up a shotgun in the backyard of his late uncle’s home in the 6000 block of Miller Road instead chanced onto several marijuana plants – some growing in buckets and others at the site, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.
The Niagara County Drug Task Force was called to the scene just after 8 p.m. Monday and retrieved the plants and deputies used a metal detector in an attempt to find the shotgun, without luck, deputies said.
The man who stumbled onto the marijuana told authorities a person who tipped him off to the location of the shotgun was on his way to Louisiana, deputies said. The volume of marijuana harvested was not disclosed., An investigation is under way.
