A burglar who has spent 22 of the past 30 years in prison faces a lengthy prison term after being convicted of four burglary counts, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.
Anthony Mills, 49, of Buffalo, was convicted Monday after a one-week trial before Erie County Judge Sheila A. DiTullio.
Mills burglarized Grand Island and Elma homes in November and December of 2011, taking jewelry, electronics and wrapped Christmas gifts during the day-time break-ins.
His 16 prior criminal convictions include 10 felony counts. Mills was on parole for a perjury conviction at the time of the burglaries, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III lauded prosecutors and Brian O’Hara, a detective with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, for their work on the case.
“A career criminal has been brought to justice and will, hopefully, be making the final payment on his quest to serve life in prison on the installment plan,” Sedita said in a statement.
Mills faces a prison term of 16 years to life if sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender on Sept. 9.
