Pieri sentence reduced in hit-and-run case

The jail sentence of a 40-year-old man who coaxed his former girlfriend to drive away after her car struck and injured two young women four years ago in Snyder has been reduced from one year to 10 months.

Erie County Judge Thomas P. Franczyk ordered the reduction Monday for John “Jack” Pieri, of the Town of Tonawanda.

Pieri allegedly urged Andrea L. Glinski to drive away after the accident at a red traffic signal at Main Street and Campus Drive.

Franczyk handled the appeal of the March 13, 2013, jail term imposed on Pieri by Amherst Town Justice Geoffrey Klein, noting that while Pieri’s actions in the passenger seat of Glinkski’s car were “wanting for human decency and compassion,” his lack of a prior criminal record and his gainful employment justified a shorter jail term.

Neither Frank LoTempio III, Pieri’s lawyer, nor spokesmen for the Erie County District Attorney’s office could be reached Monday evening for comment.

In 2011, Klein had sentenced Pieri to 30 days in jail and three years probation on his conviction of criminal solicitation for his role in the March 7, 2009 hit-and-run accident but in March he imposed a one-year local jail term after learning that Pieri had violated his probationary term by drinking and leaving the county without permission.

Glinski, now 35, of the Town of Tonawanda was in custody about two years for her plea of guilty to leaving the scene of the accident. Franczyk sentenced her to one to three years in prison in November 2009 on her guilty plea.

She was paroled from state prison in October 2011, according to state records.

UB graduate Amy Stewart and then-Daemen College senior Rachel Baird were seriously injured when Glinski struck them at the intersection about 1:40 a.m.

Stewart, who grew up on Grand Island, suffered traumatic brain injury and was hospitalized for 75 days after the accident. Baird, who graduated from Daemen, is a Syracuse native.
