A water jug falling off a pickup truck may have cost two Mexican men their freedom in America.
Late Saturday night, a trooper from the State Police at Clarence was southbound on Transit Road in the Town of Clarence when he spotted a plastic water jug falling off the rear of the truck.
When he stopped the vehicle to advise the occupants what had happened, the driver, Sergio Morales, 26, provided a Mexican passport for identification. A check with U.S. Border Patrol and Protection showed that both Morales and a passenger, Jose Guavara-Castro, 41, also from Mexico, were in the country illegally, officials said.
Both men were turned over to the Border Patrol.
