A Youngstown physician pleaded guilty to drug and health-care fraud charges Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leslie G. Foschio.
Daniel C. Gillick, 63, faces a maximum prison term of 10 years and a $500,000 fine or both, U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr. said. His sentencing date was not released. Prosecutors noted his girlfriend, Christina Guilfoyle, 28 and also of Youngstown, faces charges in the case.
Hochul said Gillick was employed as an emergency room physician at Schuyler Hospital, and on Sept. 7, 2011, Guilfoyle reported to the emergency room on the pretense of suffering a medical condition known as trygeminal neuralgia.
Gillick, who examinied her and diagnosed the condition, issued a prescription for the painkiller dilaudid, Hochul said.
Hochul said the two were arrested last November following a wide-ranging investigation including the DEA, FBI and state Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Unit.
